Troy Herbst and Larry Roeseler win 2005 Baja 1000 Overall and Secure BFG's 20th Consecutive Win |
| Larry Roeseler : "This is a fantastic race. I’m really proud to be a part of BFG Tires and the legacy of the race. This is the hardest race in the world and to win back-to-back is just incredible. It was very, very difficult: it was a true test of man and machine. This car here is amazing, I think its eight years old now. We went the whole race with no flat tires, competing with great racers. This is basically a SCORE Trophy-Truck without fenders. This car has won more races than any car, it’s incredible!” |

Troy Herbst : “We got the lead when I think Andy (McMillin, No. 103) blew his motor right below San Felipe,” Herbst said. “We had a nice clean race. When we turned it over we were fourth or fifth and there were no consequences. We came in last Sunday night so I could pre-run a few times and this is one of the best courses I’ve ever had to race.” |

To win the award,
the person must have made a significant contribution to racing both on
an off the track, demonstrated a commitment to excellence with an
uncompromising passion for motorsports, shown a sincere dedication to
improve off-road motorsports for all competitors and leave a positive
and lasting mark. During DeAngelo’s 27 years of involvement with BFGoodrich Tires and off-road racing, the sport has developed into one of world-class caliber. Much of that growth and development is a direct result of DeAngelo’s time and effort; DeAngelo has not missed a single SCORE Baja 1000 or Baja 500 since 1979. DeAngelo’s relentless dedication to the sport of off-road racing keeps BFGoodrich drivers loyal to the brand and its tires year after year. DeAngelo, who has won the SCORE Person of the Year (California State Assembly Resolution award), is also responsible for the development of the BFGoodrich pit support program—a team which has now broken records by winning the SCORE pit support team of the year 18 times. DeAngelo launched his career with BFGoodrich in May of 1979, working as a T/T driver. Three years later, DeAngelo tucked away his commercial driver’s license and moved on to bigger and better things, becoming the brand’s Motorsports Manager. As Motorsports Manager, DeAngelo brought new meaning to the term, “jack of all trades,” as his new role required him to develop programs, manage special projects, staff management, scheduling product requirements, coordinating logistics, and developing OE relationships. In 1990, DeAngelo founded DeAngelo Minton & Associates, and served as a consultant to the BFGoodrich off-road race program. His work with the Ford/BFGoodrich Rough Rider program went on to become the most winningest program in the history of the sport. While this is only a small fraction of DeAngelo’s outstanding list of accomplishments, it is quite apparent that he stays true to his own mantra, “If its worth doing, then always do the very best you can.” “This award is about giving back to racing,” said Todd Steen, motorsports marketing manager for BFGoodrich Tires. “From the first street tire to race at Le Mans to the brand’s 19 consecutive Baja 1000 wins, BFGoodrich Tires has had the opportunity to work with some of the best and most recognized names in racing throughout the years and it is important that we take time to recognize the achievement and sportsmanship of those who make racing what it is today.” Each year, five
finalists are selected by BFGoodrich with one winner selected from the
distinguished group. The inaugural winner of the award in 2003 was Sal
Fish, President/CEO of SCORE International, the world’s premier
off-road racing series and home to events like the SCORE Baja 1000. The
2004 winner, Rod Hall, is widely considered the most successful driver
in off-road history. For more than 30
years, BFGoodrich Tires has used motorsports as a proving ground.
Success on the street begins with winning on the track and BFGoodrich
Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, road, drag,
desert and extreme rock-crawling. With 18 consecutive Baja 1000 wins,
the most wins in rock-crawling history, and an unmatched record on
pavement, BFGoodrich Tires has proven the only records it breaks are its
own. Visit BFGoodrich Tires online at www.bfgoodrichtires.com. |
